Privacy policy
Last updated: April 6, 2026 · Context News
This policy describes how Context News (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use our website (https://contextnews.ai) and our native mobile applications (the “Services”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. What we collect
Website (browser). We may collect standard server and security logs (for example IP address, user agent, request path, timestamps) when you load pages or call our APIs. If NEXT_PUBLIC_GA_MEASUREMENT_ID is configured, we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (see below).
Mobile app. If you enable notifications, we store a push token and your notification preferences (categories, frequency, quiet hours, time zone) on our servers so we can deliver alerts. We also assign a random device identifier on your phone to associate settings with your install. If EXPO_PUBLIC_POSTHOG_KEY is configured in the app build, we use PostHog for product analytics (for example screen views and app lifecycle events).
Content. Our news content and AI-assisted summaries are processed on our infrastructure; we do not use your personal identity as part of the public article feed.
2. Third-party processors
We rely on service providers to run the Services. They process data on our behalf and under contractual terms. Depending on how you use Context News, this may include:
- Hosting & infrastructure — where our Next.js app and database run (for example your VPS or cloud host).
- Expo / EAS — build and distribution tooling for the mobile app; Expo may process device or build metadata as described in Expo’s policies.
- Apple & Google — push notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) on Android; they process tokens and delivery metadata under their terms.
- PostHog — when enabled in the app, analytics events are sent to PostHog (US or EU project host depending on your configuration).
- Google Analytics — when enabled on the website, page and usage metrics may be processed by Google.
- OpenAI — where we use AI for summaries or curation in the backend, content may be sent to OpenAI’s APIs per their terms.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data when required by law or to protect our rights and users.
3. Cookies & local storage
The website may use cookies or similar technologies for session, security, or analytics (including Google Analytics if configured). The mobile app stores preferences and identifiers on your device (for example via AsyncStorage) as needed for features you use.
4. Retention
We retain server logs and analytics in line with operational needs and provider defaults. Push registration data is kept while you use notifications and may be removed when you disable them or we delete inactive records.
5. Your choices
- Notifications — disable in the app’s notification settings and/or in your device system settings.
- Analytics — where the platform allows, you may limit ad tracking or analytics in device settings; website visitors can use browser controls or extensions for cookies.
6. Children
The Services are not directed at children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. International transfers
If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the US or other countries where we or our processors operate.
8. Contact
Questions about this policy: contact us.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do; continued use of the Services after changes means you accept the updated policy.
